Songs You Should NOT Use for Your First Dance
Many songs seem to have romantic tone and feel to them, but secretly, their lyrics tell a different story. Steer clear of these songs on your wedding day:
1. “I will Follow you into the Dark” by Death Cab for the Cutie – First impression: Hip, unique and seemingly sweet. Listen closely: Too DARK and depressing for weddings.
“Love of mine some day you will die
But I’ll be close behind
I’ll follow you into the dark”
2.“I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston – First impression: Romantic and sentimental. Listen closely: It is actually a break-up song. The title is so deceiving!
“If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I’ll go, but I know
I’ll think of you ev’ry step of the way
And I will always love you”
3. “Every Breath You Take” by The Police – First impression: Sweet with a nice melody and strong beat. Listen closely: It’s kind of creepy. A stalker song.
“Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I’ll be watching you”
4. “Always” by Bon Jovi – First Impression: A serious love song. Listen closely: Again, it is a break-up song!
“It’s been rainin’ since you left me
Now I’m drownin’ in the flood
You see I’ve always been a fighter
But without you I’ll give up
I will love you baby
Always
And I’ll be there forever and a day
Always”
5. “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion – First Impression: Titanic, romantic. Listen closely: We all know the story of “Titanic,” and this song is about missing and loving someone who is no longer here. Too depressing for weddings.
“Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on”
