The Summer Social: A Bridgerton Affair 2025
Saturday, July 19th, 8 - 10 PM
Dearest readers,
It is not every day that Chicago society receives an invitation quite so… captivating. Whispers have reached even the most well-appointed drawing rooms that a certain evening, set to unfold this June, promises more than mere spectacle. It promises education. It promises elegance. And, dare I say, it promises scandalous delight for those inclined to dance.
Allow me to unveil:
The Summer Social: A Bridgerton Affair
While some may mistake it for a ball alone, those truly in the know understand that this affair is, in fact, a lesson in grace—a soirée where one does not simply attend, but is transformed. And if rumors are to be believed, even the most socially awkward among us might emerge from the evening gliding rather than stumbling.
On the Subject of Dance Instruction
The true purpose of the night (though cleverly disguised in candlelight and confection) is the education of the city’s finest in the ways of historical social dance. Two lessons await those daring enough to participate.
The Regency Waltz
That most romantic of dances—intimate, floating, elegant. An expert will guide guests through its refined technique, revealing how a simple step can suggest affection, intrigue, or even the stirrings of love.
The Quadrille of the Summer Revels
A more spirited affair, the quadrille assembles groups into formations of mischief and merriment. One moment you are face to face with a stranger, the next you are whisked away into a new pattern entirely. It is a dance for the quick-witted and light-footed… or those who simply enjoy a delightful muddle.
Worry not, my dears—no partner is required, and no experience necessary. These classes, much like the best salons, are welcoming to all who wish to learn.
The Evening Unfolds
Once instruction concludes (and reputations are safely intact), guests are invited to dance freely. The floor will be open for both practiced grace and charming improvisation.
Of course, it would be quite impossible to dance on an empty stomach, so a central dessert table shall offer decadent delights beneath a canopy of fresh blooms and flickering candlelight. Light lemonade will be served, and guests may bring their own wine or beer to toast the evening.
Fashionably Dressed or Simply Fashionable?
Let it be known: attire matters. Gowns with empire waistlines, gloves, fans, the occasional floral embellishment—such details do not go unnoticed. Nor do crisply pressed coats, bow ties, or a particularly well-chosen waistcoat.
But above all, what one must bring is presence. The sort of charm that lights up a room. The kind of conversation that lingers long after the dance ends. Dress as though you expect to be noticed—because you will be.
