Salsa Dance Group Classes
We offer Salsa group classes in a variety of ways to help you learn the best way possible.
Our Semi-Private Salsa Club group classes are not like traditional group classes where the teacher stands at the front of the class and demonstrates concepts to a large group of students, never really giving personalized attention. Since these classes are limited in size, we can treat them more like shared private lessons, where the teacher works with each couple individually. Our semi-private group classes offer you personalized attention and, therefore, a better learning environment. These classes also allow you to learn more than just Salsa, you can try out Bachata and Cha Cha as well!
An important part of our tailored approach is that we take notes on key takeaways after each session, which ensures that your development is consistent, whether you join us for sporadic classes or engage in a comprehensive 4-week program. Your advancement is calibrated to match your learning style and pace. Please note that semi-private group classes require a partner.
If you’re looking for the classic approach to group learning, we also offer social classes and workshops. These classes don’t require a partner, so they’re great if you’re looking to meet new people.
Salsa is the perfect way to dip your feet into the world of Latin dance. In these classes, you can expect to learn a variety of Salsa steps and spins in a high-energy environment. We’ll make sure you’re ready for a fun night out at any of Chicago’s thriving Latin clubs or your own kitchen. After 45 minutes of instruction in our Lakeview location, we provide practice time so you can solidify what you just learned.

Salsa Group Class FAQ
-
In most of our classes, we teach Salsa on the “1,” not the “2” and consider ourselves a Cross Body, LA-style studio (although we don’t adhere to any one style). If this doesn’t make sense to you, don’t worry about it; know that we teach the type of Salsa that most people dance in Chicago. You’ll have no problem fitting in and dancing with others when you choose to go out dancing. We do have a class or two that focuses on Salsa “On the 2.”
-
We currently host Salsa group classes every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at our Lakeview Studio. We host drop-in Salsa group classes at our West Loop Loft intermittently.
-
No experience? No Problem! We host mixed-level Salsa classes to accommodate all levels of Salsa dancers. We start as a group and go over some basic movement combos - think Salsa Shines (side-by-side salsa with your partner - and then everyone learns new movement appropriate for whatever level they’re at. The mixed-level classes are really like mini private lessons so you get a bunch of personalized attention! We limit our class size to five couples, so you’ll always get a lot of attention from the teacher.
-
All of our group classes at Ballroom Dance Chicago are mixed-level, so we accept dancers of all levels! Mixed-level classes (each couple basically gets mini private lessons throughout the class) offer each couple personalized attention so no matter what skill level you bring (1 week of dancing or 30 years of lesson), we’ll teach you something new and exciting that’s appropriate for you.

We welcome solo dancers to come to our Accelerated Intro Lessons, where we dive into new dance styles or revisit old favorites. Perfect for beginners or those looking to refresh their moves, each class will boost your dance skills. We rotate during the social "try it out" portions of the workshop.

At Ballroom Dance Chicago, we offer a variety of group classes to suit different preferences. While the majority of our group classes do not rotate partners, as many students attend as a date night with their partner and prefer to stay together, we also have classes where partner rotation is promoted.
If you’re looking for a group class with partner rotation, we welcome both solo dancers and those with partners in our Accelerated Intro Lessons!
