Salsa at BDC

Salsa is one of the most popular Latin dances due to its easy learning curve, suitability for all ages and abilities, fast turns, exciting footwork, rhythmic hip movements, and lively music. Salsa dancing, like salsa music, has developed through collaborations and cultural influences, resulting in distinctive styles that vary by region. With Latin and Afro-Caribbean roots, the dance is celebrated globally, with notable variations in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and New York.

There is a wide array of Salsa styles to explore, but our primary focus is on teaching the popular "On the 1" style. This particular style holds a special place in the heart of our Master Teacher, Matthew Sove, as it combines the Cuban-based foundation with a contemporary West Coast twist. Our classes and lessons are designed to provide you with the necessary moves and concepts to confidently step onto the dance floor of Chicago's vibrant Salsa clubs.

Our classes offer an exhilarating mix of music genres, including mambo, pop, and disco beats, ensuring a dynamic and energetic dance experience. Moreover, our students have the exciting opportunity to participate in our annual Miami trip, where they can showcase their newly acquired dance skills and immerse themselves in the vibrant Latin dance scene of one of the world's most thrilling cities.

Originating from Cuba in the early 1900s, Salsa on 2 is a lively and rhythmic dance style renowned for its lightning-fast footwork, captivating hip movements, and expressive arm gestures. Unlike traditional Salsa, Salsa on 2 boasts a unique and distinct feel that mesmerizes dancers of all levels.
